Answer the call of the mountains on an unforgettable 8-day trekking expedition into the heart of Morocco’s High Atlas. This journey is for those who believe travel is felt most deeply with weary legs, a full heart, and the profound silence that only exists on high peaks.
Activity: Arrive at Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK). Transfer to your hotel or traditional Riad.
Evening: Briefing with your mountain guide to discuss the upcoming trek, check equipment, and answer any questions.
Accommodation: Riad in Marrakech.
Activity: A one-hour scenic drive takes you into the foothills of the High Atlas to the village of Imlil (1,740m), a bustling Berber market town and the starting point for most treks.
Warm-up Hike: An afternoon acclimatization hike to the village of Aremd (1,900m) and perhaps further to the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, a pilgrimage site built on a moraine spur overlooking the valley.
Hiking Time: 2-3 hours.
Accommodation: Guesthouse (gîte) in Imlil or Aremd.
Activity: Begin your trek in earnest. The trail leads up the Ait Mizane Valley, following a well-defined path that gradually steepens. You’ll pass through walnut groves and traditional villages before the landscape becomes more rugged and mountainous.
Highlight: The final approach to the Toubkal Refuge (Neltner Hut) at 3,207m, a stone-built mountain hut that will be your base for the summit attempt.
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours. Elevation Gain: +1,467m.
Accommodation: Toubkal Refuge (dormitory-style).
The Summit Day: An early start (before sunrise) is essential. The path is rocky and involves some scree, culminating in a steep climb to the summit ridge. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking, panoramic views across the entire Atlas range and, on a clear day, all the way to the Sahara.
Activity: After celebrating your achievement at the summit, you will descend carefully back to the refuge for a well-deserved rest and lunch.
Hiking Time: 7-9 hours round trip. Elevation Gain/Loss: +960m / -960m.
Accommodation: Toubkal Refuge.
Activity: Instead of retracing your steps, you’ll take a more scenic and remote route back. A challenging climb over the Tizi n’Ouagane pass (3,600m) offers stunning views before a long descent into the beautiful and less-visited Azzadene Valley.
Highlight: Experience the tranquility of a remote valley and stay with a local Berber family.
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours.
Accommodation: Berber homestay (gîte) in the Azzadene Valley.
Activity: A beautiful day’s hike descending the valley, passing through several traditional Berber villages. The trail follows the river, and you’ll notice the landscape becoming greener.
Highlight: Arriving at Setti Fatma, famous for its series of seven waterfalls. You can take a refreshing dip (weather permitting) and explore the lower cascades.
Hiking Time: 5-6 hours.
Accommodation: Auberge in Setti Fatma.
Activity: A short drive returns you to Marrakech. The afternoon is free to relax and wash away the dust of the trail.
Highly Recommended: A traditional Moroccan Hammam (steam bath) and massage to soothe your muscles—a perfect post-trek ritual.
Evening: Celebrate your summit success with a special farewell dinner.
Accommodation: Riad in Marrakech.
Activity: Transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) for your departure flight.
