Embark on an unforgettable adventure to summit Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the rooftop of North Africa! This expertly guided 4-day trek through Morocco’s stunning High Atlas Mountains combines challiking hiking, breathtaking scenery, and authentic Berber culture for the ultimate mountain experience.
Day 1: Marrakech → Imlil → Refuge du Toubkal
Morning
Depart Marrakech early (7:00 AM) for a 2-hour drive to Imlil (1,740m), the trek’s starting point.
Meet your guide and mule team, then begin hiking through the Aït Mizane Valley.
Trek
Pass Berber villages (Aremd, Sidi Chamharouch) and follow the river.
Gradual ascent to Toubkal Refuge (3,207m) (~5–6 hours, 12km)
Evening
Dinner and overnight at the refuge (basic dormitory accommodation).
Day 2: Summit Toubkal → Return to Refuge
Steep climb via the north cirque (scree slopes) to the summit (4,167m).
Reach the summit for sunrise (4–5 hours ascent).
Enjoy panoramic views of the Atlas range and Sahara.
Descent
Return to the refuge for lunch (~3 hours down).
Rest or optional short hike to explore nearby valleys.
Night
Second night at the refuge.
Day 3: Refuge → Tizi Oussem → Aït Aïssa
Morning
Descend via the Tizi n’Tagharat pass (3,500m) into the Azzadene Valley.
Stop in Tizi Oussem (1,800m) for lunch at a guesthouse.
Afternoon
Continue through walnut groves to Aït Aïssa village (~5–6 hours total).
Night
Homestay with a Berber family (traditional dinner and cultural experience).
Day 4: Aït Aïssa → Imlil → Marrakech
Morning
Gentle hike through the Mizane Valley back to Imlil (~3–4 hours).
Celebrate with mint tea and lunch in Imlil.
Afternoon
Drive back to Marrakech (~2 hours), arriving by 4:00 PM.
